Just as i find it odd that you find it odd that someone would arm themselves when travelling to remote (or not so remote) places.

We live in uncertain times and there are quite a number of unsavory characters who would find it easier to dispose of myself and my bike rather than move their "business enterprise".

Yeah, I gotcha, point taken. I never even thought of unsavory characters and any "business enterprise" you might stumble upon in a remote place.
