Revival of old thread because I was afraid my wheel bearings were crapping out. Had me riding scared today. I will lube the speedo sending unit with wd40 tonight. If I don't repost here then it worked. I have a nearly steady high pitch squeal that sounds like it comes from the front end and stops as I go below a couple of mph. Bearings turn smoothly and no heat in hub. Brakes look OK too.

FWIW, mine did the same and would only fix temporarily with wd40. I took the wheel off, cleaned the mechanism, lubed lightly with wd40, put it all back together and it been over a year with no squeal. I ride dirt, so I didn't use grease as it would be a dirt collector.

WD40? great if water is in the hub and needs displaced.
For lube use I like a silicone spray.

Used WD40 and paper towels to clean out the speedo unit and the dust seal. Lubed it with a fail amount of white Li grease. No squeaking today, hooray. I will have to wait and see how long it holds up. My question is what is the root cause? Wear? Dirt? Dry/No lube? Is the sound coming from the wheel hub on the dust seal or from the magnetic rotor spinning on the axle? I see no other relative motion in there.

I just repaired the tube in my front and once it all went back together I started noticing a chirp when just barely moving/stopping. Like from 0 to 8 mph or so. Its very light though, not much to worry about.

I might try to shoot some aerosol lube in there though.
