Question Acerbis tank and UNABIKER radiator fitment

I know this is probably a rare combo but wanted to see if anyone else has come across this issue. I bought the Acerbis 3.7 gallon gas tank and have UNABIKER radiator guards already installed on my 2006 KLX250s.

When I went to install the tank it wont line up as the radiator guards are wider and wont allow the gas tank to sit flush and line up with the mounting holes. It seems like I would have to cut some of the mental off the radiator guards to give the tank enough clearance to fit over them. Before I start hacking away at these beautiful radiator guards I was curious if anyone else has dealt with this and had any other ideas.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures at the moment.

Thanks,
-Nick

Hi Nick,

I have an 06 klx with the Unabiker radiator guards and the Acerbis 3.7 gallon tank. I installed both of them myself and yes I did have to do some trimming to the radiator guards to get them to fit with the bolt holes and clearance around the tank. I remember I had to enlarge the aft radiator guard mount holes to get the inner acerbis gas tank mounting bolts in, that was easily solved by putting a bit larger of a washer under the head of the bolt. Also I remember having to clearance the unabiker right radiator guard around the fan as the blades would hit. I also put a piece of rubber tubing over the outer edge of the radiator guards to prevent them from chaffing or cutting into the plastic acerbis gas tank in the event of a tip over. I didn't feel bad about cutting the radiator guards because it didn't effect the amount of protection they offer and it was worth it to me. Hope this helps.

Nick glad I could help. If you ever want to take a look at my klx351 or go for a ride let me know. I'm in the Detroit area as well.
