300kit coming this week
just finished reading another thread that said 300 versus 331 is about same price-wise, but I didn't get an answer to "part b" of my question, that being what to do about the stock carb...can it stay and work? or does it have to go? and if it goes, what goes in its place?...I have ridden a DRZ in stock form, but it also had a 14-tooth front CS sprocket (stock was 15). On the open road it was okay, but I didn't like it (off-road) simply because of the higher center of gravity and taller seat..I am 5'6", so I love the height of my KLX, just looking to add a bit more giddy-up to this size bike.
Yes, the 331 will work fine with the CVK. A pumper just makes it easier to loft the front end because of the added snap. I can think of at least 2 people who have already ran the 331 with theCVK...nobrakes is one of them and Bill P. at Thumpertalk is another.TheCVKworksfine, but has a different personality..more rheostat like instead of snappy...that's all. No big deal.

Save your money.
All this talk about 300-331 kits is a waist of time.
People should just accept the bike for what it is a 250cc bike
Alot of people say they don't want a 400 or 450 because they like to ride the tight trails.
But the same people are fitting big bore kits trying to screw the living crap out of a 250cc
If they only like riding tight trails then they should leave the bike alone and ride the tight trails.
Lets get real

Actually, I ride all kinds of stuff..and that's exactly why I want to give it some more giddy-up...it's great as a 250 for trail and back-road riding, but once I hit the open roads, it's too slow for me. The DRZ400 is too big (tall), but the KLX250 is the perfect height, so with a little help from some jetting, sprockets, exhaust and maybe even a 331cc kit, it will be the perfect dual-sport bike for me.
Wow, you took one little slice of what this bikecan do and made it into its sole purpose.
I do a lot of miles on the pavement and the 300 kit has actually made 6th a useful gear.Yeah, I sure thought it was a 'waste of time' when I was climbing mountain passes at speed, not having to down-shift and buzz along at a higher RPM. 'Screw the living crap out of 250cc?' I'm not exactly sure what you mean there, but are you aware that theKLX250 and KLX 300 share the same bottom end?KLX300's have been on the trails longer that this bike and I've heard of no reliability issues that would be related to the larger displacement.
How do you figure it's worse fortight trails when you are only adding power and not really increasing the weight or raising the center of gravity? That is the KLX300'sstrength..it has plenty of power for the'tight trails', but is morenimble than thebigger bikes. Mostmagazines that have reviewed the barrel swap, report even better tight single track prowess with the added displacement.
I dunno, Iseem to be pretty happy so far with notbeing 'real,' but I hope that post gave you a goodrelease.

Why anyone would want to put road wheels and tyres on a dirt bike is beyond me.
Road wheels and tyres look totally stupid on any dirt bike.
You would be laughed at in Oz riding a KLX with wheels and tyres like that
That's what the klx is, a dirt bike that can be used on roadbetween trailsbut it's mainly built for the dirt trails.
I never said more poweron the trails is a bad thing.
Thats why i have a second bike with more torque and power.
The 400 is just as nimble and more powerfull than the 250 on tight trails.
You probably need to ride on roads more where you are as dirt trails are probably un heard of.
You should buy a road bike and leave the trail talk to people who actually ride the trails

What ever gets you going
You guys are to up tight.
Loosen up a bit and don't get too serious about a 250 trail bike.
If you want to ride ot on the road then go for it. You might look rediculous but thats good for you.
You need to accept other peoples opinions and get a life.
