Get the camera out. I'd like to see lots of shots of the conversion from start to finish. Should be a sweet one off.

We pretty much all agree the bike is underpowered but is definately better with the jetting, exhaust, gearing and have all adapted to what the bike is,a fun dual sport that looks cool for cheap $$$$. Those that couldn't deal with what they got with all the regular mods did the one step further and big bored it. Here in maine they don't look at the motor #'s,if it passes the inspection and the vin is legal your good to go.

Uh, K-dude, I just don't get it. Back in the early 70's you could stuff a 351 Cleveland into a Pinto, or a Chevy 350 into a Vega. Faster? No brainer there. But underneath all that power was the heart and soul of a very pedestrian automobile. The mods that were necessary to use all that power hardly made it worth the effort, IMO.

Your 450 will present the same challenges. Brakes, suspension, steering blah blah will all be compromised, as will the center of gravity and I'm sure there are many more issues I haven't thought of.

Point is, why not just get what you wanted to begin with, instead of inventing Frankenbike which, oh by the way, will have a resale value that falls in direct proportion to the cost of the mods. For 7K I can find a ton of bikes with more power - and factory setup suspension, brakes, etc - that I wouldn't have to mess with.

No offense meant here, I'm just not sure what the rationalization is. Best of luck on the conversion.

Obviously he did not know he had to.....funny azz thread.

He is right thou, some of ya'll take this way too serious. To quote Iowa aka 09klxowner, "you know deep down inside" lmao ... that the klx is a gutless sob out of the box, that is true.

Personally if I was klxdude, I would buy a ktm300xc-w and just put a tag on it and sell the klx and his other kx250 & 450 and buy a husky 610 with the proceeds for his klx replacement or dual sport ride.

Oh and I will own one of those electric start 300xc-w smokers one day, yes I will.

Only if it's the special edition ISDE model right.

Forgot I have to credit this guy. Legal.
Photographer: Mitterbauer H.
Check the clear tank, CNC triple clamps, rear sprocket, extra alloy protection. Not forgetting the all important E-start.

wow, what comes around I guess, goes around. 18 months ago I was bashing the power of the KLX along with every other aspect of it and no one had the ***** to say, "yeah, you are right". But now, it seems like it's accepted and embraced to either say or agree with that the bike as fingermullet just quoted me as saying, "is a gutless sob out of the box". BTW, I'm flattered finger that you took the time to dig that one up.
here we have what, two threads talking about this? and then, when people talk of the DRZ they say it isn't a fair comparison. but now we've got 2-stroke 300cc KTM's being posted and people comparing their KLX to a CR80 and other MX bikes. I've come to accept the fact I was indeed being unfair to the KLX when I made those comments when I bought my DRZSM after selling my '06 KLX. But I also know that I was correct with my opinions and now they're becoming mainstream around here. It's good to see that people are man enough to now say that their KLX's are pooches, no matter if you've bigbored it or cammed it. Let's all just be happy that the bike does what it was specifically built to do- take us anywhere we want to go legally.

finally, the 450 engine in the KLX, well, kudos to whoever it is for the idea and the funding to make it happen. But come on, you do realize that it is a really DUMB idea, right? The power will eventually bring down that chassis, in what could seriously be argued, a very dangerous way. Your bike, your money. done.
