Yeah and the motor's been around for over 24 years on the KLR250.
I'm not really sure how anyone can look at (let alone test ride) a KLX and mistake it for a dirt bike?

It does, because I feel the same way. I test road my bike and at the time, thought it was fine. If I didn't I wouldn't have bought it.

the engine and chassis are still very current designs. If it's not a dirtbike, what is it exactly? Larry Roeseler use to race a modded KLX, was that not a dirtbike? He used the same exact engine, just hopped up. Same forks, just modded. It is a dirtbike, but some people just expect too much from it. Sara Palin is a VP candidate, but she is no George H.W. Bush. Same thing, the KLX is a dirtbike, but it isn't a KX450F. The Eagles are a pro football team, but they're not the Dallas Cowboys.

Your analogies are irrelevant.
It's a dual sport now go pick an argument with someone else.

All I can say is....My '07's completely stock and I love it after 18 months. I still grin ear to ear when I blow through twistiet faster than many street bikes could ever dream of. I can only imagine how sweet it is as a a supermoto. I can definitely see where shedding pounds on the Klx would increase the fun factor. I am sure modded correctly it would seem like rocket to me. If you are comparing the KLX to a faster bike from your past, You may never like it. I had a Yami MX360 2 stroke as a teenager and yet this KLX is still plenty of bike for me. Maybe because it is so dang sweet in all situations I ride in. From to jumping to trails to street...It's a blast.

it's only argument if you disagree. you said that you didn't know how people could look at or ride the KLX and mistake it for a dirt bike. I took that as you don't think it's a REAL dirt bike. I'm just arguing then, what is it? If it is a dual-sport as you put it, what does the dual aspect represent? street/dirt? Okay, I think we're done here. lol

analogies irrelevent only if you like the eagles, are a republican, or buy your KLX expecting KX power and handling.

Holly smokes some of you guy are fanatics about your Klx's! To answer some of you judgemental peoples ?'s 1. I dont know anyone who had a klx to try out. 2. The dealer wouldnt allow me to put any miles on the bike at all, not even in the parking lot. 3 I've literally had over 20 bikes in my lifetime and this is deffinatley the slowest of them all ; my 1982 yz 80 was was most likely faster than this thing. 4. Im not bashing the bike at all so calm down guys I'm just saying the power absolutley sucks on this bike, thats all. I expected the mediocrities on weight, suspension, etc but honestly never in a million years would have thought it would be so dang gutless. I found a great solution to the problem though My local shop is installing a kxf 450 motor in it next month and walla problem solved, I have a fast, street legal "as far as the state of Oregon Knows" that is fairly good looking and I will be under $7000.00 total including the price of the bike.

So why didn't you just get a ktm 450? You would have got twice the bike the klx will ever be for just about the same as you will have in the klx.

Dude, if you put a kx450f motor in the klx and can pass that off as a 250S to the DMV, you will be my hero! Must have pics!

That would probably work, though. All they really look at is the VIN number, right? Then as long as it passes inspection, you should be golden.

To many of us, the plate is where the value is. It's harder and harder to find legal places to ride in many parts of the country. But with a plate, a lot more options become available including forest service roads which are generally legal for road-legal vehicles, and being able to connect shorter trail sections with pavement.
