Actually I'm still in Afghanistan, sorry. I have a couple more weeks then I'll be back home. I brought a laptop this time and I have more time for internet. The last couple of weeks here are going to be a hide and slide mission for me. *LOL*

I did a solo drive from Alaska to Atlanta in my Toyota pickup. I took the long way via the southern states. I got trapped in Destruction Bay for 12 hours and ended up doing 40 hours non-stop from there to Idaho trying to make my mother's house in time for Christmas. I got a flat tire in Ontario and I missed Christmas by two hours but it was close enough.

I certainly have a good understanding of being tired on the road. I have no intent of playing that game on the bike. The trip from AK wasn't that much fun. I only want to have fun on the motorbike trip, sorta what it's for. A couple days after I get back from Idaho I have to head back to Afghanistan.

No doubt I'll be posting pics of this trip. In fact, I'm going to get a new camera for it as well. My current one hasn't taken the heat and sand to well.

Oops, I thought you were back this way........be careful - some friggin nuts over there!

Sounds like an interesting trip! 40 hours non-stop! I couldn't do that!

So when are you getting the ZZR? Nice looking bike, I really like the look of them.

It had it's moments. For the record if you're ever driving to Alaska don't stop in Destruction Bay, Canada. Chances are you won't realize you passed it but just in case. Only reason I know it exists is due to an unforseen road closure. It's a creepy little... um... place. Not sure what it qualifies as.

I only pulled off the 40 hour push thanks to 7 cans of Monster energy drink and a few boxes of "Scooby Snacks" cinimon graham crackers. Needless to say when I got to Boise I wasn't feeling to good. Worst heart burn of my life.

The neat part about the ZZR is it will be waiting for me when I get back in a couple of weeks. I had money sent to my buddy to have a black ZZR held for me. They do look good and there are tons of cool things for them since they are the same bike as the 98-02 ZX6R, more or less. In fact a KF member who was a nominee for bike of the month has one in dark blue, if I'm not mistaken. Good times...

Never heard of Destruction Bay - I'll have to check it out on the internet and see if I figure out why it is so creepy! There are lots of 'interesting' places here in Canada.

That is awesome that you're coming home to a brand new bike! And the blue one that was nominated for BOTM is Gerg's bike - he loves it! He has also done several mods to his - including a corbin seat.

Well, it's not in your face creepy. It just creeps me out. You're driving along nothing but trees on both sides then you come to a brief clearing and there it is. Like out of a horror novel. If you were to keep driving you be right back in the trees and not even know it was there. The people that are there duing the winter live there year around. I was asking the locals how they had come to live way out there, nobody really had an answer. There is a diner and a tourist shop and I think that's it. I don't even remember a gas station. I want to say it's way North BC but maybe Southern Yukon. I think the aliens had removed that part of my memory. *LOL* It's very quaint and remote, that's for sure.

I am really excited about the new bike. It's going to be perfect for what I will be using it for. I'm still going to do the ZX10 thing later but I want to warm up to it with my ZX9. Wear out the 9 on the track and when I think I'm ready upgrade to the 10.

Well - no wonder you found it creepy! Here is what I found out about its history....

"Destruction Bay has a much shorter history. It was established as a centre for construction and maintenance on the Alaska Highway, and that remains its primary role today."

"In Destruction Bay there are 15 houses, according to the 2001 Census."

That should explain it!

That sounds right. According to the locals, way back when they were building the Alaskan Highway the area was a large tent city. I guess the area gets some nasty wind storms. A storm blew through and leveled the camp. I think some people were killed. That's how the town got it's name. According to the locals.

i did this one this summer, from memphis to grants pass oregon, then down to the coast and back via more northern route, thru snake river, yellowstone, did the beartooth pass, on to deadwood, badlands and then flat lands back home, did 6255 miles in 16 days.

so yea long trips I vote for as seperat forum, versus day trips or just long weekend trip that we all do often,
