Default zzr400 carb

hi after following previous advice on here i have just cleaned out my tank and had the carbs cleaned out,i,ve put it back together and it starts, runs much better than before,a little lumpy and i,m struggleing to get a good tickover? could it be that i have put the throttle cables on the wrong way round? to be honest i never marked them before removing and had no clue which went where on reassembly, could this be a possible reason for it running a little eratic?does it make a difference which way the cables go?any help would be very much appreciated thanks darran ps i,m so useless at mechanical things if you hadent guessed

One cable is a pusher and the other a puller. I have never installed one incorrectly, so not real sure what would happen if they were??

But I wouldn't think it would cause the engine to run erratically. Can you describe the problem a little more? Is the bike running bad at idle, or thru the entire rpm range, or at constant throttle?

How far out are your af screws?

You would definitely know if you installed the push/pull cables backwards.

NO prob...

I guess I am not real sure by what you mean tick over??

I am guessing that over 2,000 rpm it runs great? What year is your bike man and I'll find that plug gap for ya.

hi sorry about that by tickover i mean idle,it must be an english phrase lol the more i run the bike the better its gettin??? could the cables need adjusting after refitting? i took up all the slack on the adjusters but that made the throttle really stiff and tight, its still a little slugish on returning to closed when i release it,the bike is a 1990 zzr400 import to the uk and the gaps would be great if you can help thanks ever so much for all your time.

Make sure your grip is not causing the drag for the spring return. Stiff and tight is not good either.
