Default What kind of tires....

I have a 98 ZX9R and need some new tires. I usually ride a few times to work which is 100 miles round trip. I want to know what tire will give me the most mileage and still stick to the ground. Also i currently have a 180 rear tire and want to know the pros and cons of putting on a 190 instead. Thanks.

First about the size. The 190 while it looks cool, will change your steering geometry. I would stick with the 180.

Now about the tires. Is most of your riding commuting to work around town stuff, or do you hit the twisties often?

If you like the twisties, I like the Metzler M3. Sticks well, even in the rain. I have about 4500 on a set with plenty of
tread. I should get another 2k out of them.

Although I've never used them, the Dunlop Qualifier is supposed to be good. I always ran D208's before I switched to the Metzler's. I would get 5k from a rear. I always change in sets, so I don't know what I would get from a front.

If you want higher mileage, go with the Metzler Roadtec ZR or a Pilot Road. I had a buddy get around 10k from a set of the Pilot's. Dunlop has the D220, but I've heard they are like riding on a rock.

Hope this helps

I agree with KevyzToyon the geometry changes. But that can be a good change or a bad change depending on how you feel about your ride. For example: I switched from a 190/55 to a 190/50 to slow down my corner entrances on the streets. (06 10r on Qualifiers). I also knew that there were some long runs to be made last year. I noticed a flat spot happening on the Qualifiers in the centerat 4000 miles. I now have 4500 miles on them and they do real nice for me in the twisties too. Not 100% twisty effort but they are pretty comfy for me.
