Starter solenoid.
Hopin ive sussed puttin the pic on right, lol. The two terminals with nuts on are....Left one is battery and loom feed in.Right one is starter motor out feed lead.Bottom one(small spade terminal)Has a lead that dissapears into the loom(earth?).Top small spade terminal has an orange loom wire that doesnt become live when ignition is on,there is also a spare lead that does become live with ignition but dont think this goes on the solenoid. As the other pic shows the wirings a bit of a job in progress as ive had a lot apart to clean connectors etc,but I promise you it will live again!!!! lol
Cactus, "resurrection" can be a nasty business. Old wires can corrode anywhere there is a hole or crack in the insulation, which means even if you clean all the connectors you may still have a problem. (Old, brittle wires are a PITA.) Make notes of what your wires do "on the meter", even if you have the schematic. This can come in very handy, even if it is a bit overkill. Not an easy job to revive a classic; I have MUCH respect for guys who breathe life back into the older iron. Keep going! You will be justly proud when you take your baby out for her fresh ride!!
Does the bike have a neutral post that indicates the bike is in neutral? My KLR had one and I believe the wire on the neutral post went to the solenoid and showed it was in nuetral so the bike would fire. Probably has something to do with that or a sidestand or clutch safety switch. Just my 3 guesses.
Lol,cheers gang! Ill have a prod around, the neutral sensor could be likely, its a pita when the wirings been chopped to remove sidestand switch etc...however they are usually more hassle than they are worth. The frazzled wire was me,plumbed it into the starter feed spare terminal, plugged battery in and hey presto, watch that wire fry!!!Ill post more as I get along, thanks for all the advice.
