ZX9r faint tick
I have a 02 ZX9r 8000 miles on it that i purchased about 3 weeks ago. I know little to nothing about these bikes as it is my first one. (had a cruiser) ive been browsing through the forums and it seems a lot of people have this tic. Its so faint i couldn't hear it with my helmet on an didn't notice it till i rode today without a helmet and anyone not listening for the tick doesn't notice it now that i have noticed it though it seems like its all i hear. Me and a buddy have been working on his 01 ZX6r and when i listened to it it to has this same faint tick both have full Yoshi exhaust is there anything to worry about. Bike runs super strong and has been regularly serviced (seen paper work) Let me know what u think as i have no clue about these bikes
Welcome to KF
How many miles on the ride? Post up some pics.
As you prolly know now from your search on the kawi, even when warm the valves may sound off just a bit. The CCT (cam chain tensioner) is a culprit almost all of the time unless you have a manual tensioner installed.

The 9's will tick, especially on the sidestand when warming up. I prefer to sit on the bike during warmup so it's getting good oil flow to the right side (where the cam chain lives). Maybe I'm old school, but I think it's important to let the bike run a few minutes before you get moving. I know for a fact the clutch likes it. Early 9's tend to "clunk" the clutch when cold. (Yes; tell me how it needs adjustment, blah blah. It doesn't.) Just try to make an effort to keep lube on the right side when cold, and make sure your oil level is good. Congrats on the 9!! GREAT bikes that do many things well, even if they are a bit porky by today's standards.
