oil change
Yeah wasn't sure where to put this question. Anyways, I have changed my oil now a few times, and just wondering what kind u all others (that have the 636, i have an 03) are using. I have been using the MOT31 with a HIFLOFILTRO OIL FILTER. Thats the kind that the local small shop here in jax carries and says to use. Just 40 some dollars is alot and dont know if thats what I should be using. Maybe u all are using something else at a better price or a better place maybe to order it. also I am running 20w50. whats ur input.
Everyone has their own theories on oil and filters. But 20/50 dino oil sounds abit on the thick side for a street bike. 10/40 is fairly normal though. Can you beat the $40 price in material and disposing of the oil?
Dino Oil? yeah i was wondering about the weight. its what he suggest to put in it though. The bike seems to run fine though. Can I beat 40? nope. Not even on Ebay. Yeah I went there. lol.
20/50 is a bit thick unless you live in an area with a high ambient temperature. Modern engines havre some very narrow oilways and a 10W-40 flows better around them, especially just after startup when engine wear is at its greatest.

20/50 is fine for a race car; not so much for bikes. I'd suggest draining and refilling with a high quality 10-30 or 5-30 synthetic. (I won't open the "name brand" Pandora's box.) Seriously, get rid of that dino diffy fluid and put in some good synth. (and please don't overfill it.)
Thanks guys. so is that shell rotella 5w40 at wally world? pretty sure thats what ur saying. Thanks for the heads up. thats half the price, and seems liek u all are a little more knowledgable on the oil then the guy at the shop. Thanks again.
yea you can get that oil at walmart, ive been useing it for 10k miles & i street ride & race my bike & no complaints here, try it man you will be surprised...
