Default help with my kawasaki

we have a 2000 Kawasaki prairie 400 4x4 that was given to us but it has been sitting for about 3 years with a hole in the radiator....we put a new radiator in it but when we run it we noticed it now has either water and radiator fluid in the oil chamber....any suggestions on what it might be and how I can fix it myself

It could be condensation. I would strongly suggest changing the oil and fuel.

Change the oil for sure as mentioned above. There is a good chance that the head gasket let loose when it got too hot with the bad radiator. You can do a leak down or compression test while the spark plug wire is disconnected to test.

Good luck and welcome to KF

Agree with Drag^. Change the oil/filter. Double-check everything and change the head gasket if you need to.....just do it. I know; it's a PITA to do. Don't dick around, when they go, there's no "quick fix." (i.e., don't pour in a bottle of Barr's Stop Leak or other snake oil, OK?)
Welcome to the forums. Keep us posted. We'll help if we can.

Thanks guys. I have never done this before and can't afford to take it to a shop to have done right now. Is it something an average person can do and do I need any special tools.

fairly inexpensive specialty tools, yes

Once you own them, you will always have that tool for the next 20 or so more rides down the line that you may own.

according to my vn800 manual, that mechanical seal is not too bad to swap out. But it also mentions to swap out the old impeller with a new one. Not sure if that is really needed or not.

Welcome to KF. Please start your own thread. That helps us old dudes remember where we last seen that post. LOL It will also help in the search section.
