Engine bogs down when rolling on the throttle
I think you're getting some crud in your secondary jets. You have to literally take a piece of fine wire and poke it through the jet "hole" to get the debris out; soaking it just doesn't work. There may be some residue lurking in the carbs, somewhere. Doubt it's the fuel filter. Some guys will tell you to "just run the hell out of it" to clear the crud. I've not had any luck with that method. My bet is on crud.
I have it running good again, I let it sit idleing for 2 hours tonight. I runs pretty good, the idle is a little bouncy but it doesn't conk out. It revs all the way up. Have some backfire when I do that and at first I saw a flame flash out the tailpipe everytime I reved it but I don't really see it anymore. I have alittle bit of hesitation in the midrange but it sounds good. Next I gotta fix the clutch issue!
I ran it and ran it, drove it around for some time around the blocks. It's running good and starts right up. Very little hesitation in mid range but it's working itself out. I've never messed w cylinder valves before, I'm mechanically inclined but never dabbled in valves lol!

hahaha, congrats on the progress none the less.
The bike runs damn good now from the carbs, engine, and clutch. I learned a bit with my first bike. What it came down to was patients, keep it to the basics to trouble shoot. Worked for me atleast and now I have a bike that runs damn nice for an 85' ninja 600r!
I have the same problem. I cleaned carbs and jets and added a large filter because of dirt / dust /mud in float bowls. But I did find a partial solution. I just peel back the #1 carb rubber into the airbox and it revs to 11k. 13k? is over redline is it not?
Yes I am using a lot of gas too. Also if I hold my hand over the carb mouth it will spit back gas so suspect that the carb is blocked. Manual suggest buying a new carb. The internal very small passages that can not be cleaned without major work like drilling an access hole might be a solution but I am not that desperate yet.
Also check your diaphrams for holes in the rubbers
