Clutch????
I have an 87 ex500. When I start the bike after it has been sitting for more than 10 hours or so and put it into first gear the bike stalls. I can not get it into neutral unless the bike is running. I hold in the clutch lever all the way when I attempt to restart the bike and then the bike lurches forward while the clutch in all the way. I usually have to try 2-3 times to get the bike started and each time the bike lurches forward. Any ideas on whats going on? Do I need to replace the clutch or make some sort of adjustment? I have no issues when it comes to shifting between gears. It's just when I try to start the bike and put it into first gear for the first time.

Sounds like burnt oil gumming the plates together. Try an oil change. If that doesn't fix it, strip the clutch and clean the plates - emery cloth on the friction plates. While you're in there, check the plates for warping.
Make sure there's 2 - 3 mm cable free play at the lever.
