Clutch wrench and Fan clutch wrench
Well last week I picked up a tool that I could have used when I added the kick starter on my wife's bike, but I now have it for the next job, be it clutch replacement on either bike and also when I do the kick starter on my bike.
And while that is all well and good, I thought I would share a funny....or not so funny with you all. Have you ever had one of those ideas that you were going to save money making something yourself instead of buying it? Oh come on we all have done that right? Well a couple of years ago my fan clutch on my 99 Dodge 2500 4X4 diesel truck went out, which meant it was spinning way too easy and in fact continued to spin after I shut off the truck.
Anyway I went to the local auto parts store to see if they had the special wrenches to hold the nut on the shaft and one for the clutch nut. They didn't. These wrenched need to be 1/4 inch thick and so I did a mock up with some cardboard and took the templates to the local machine shop and showed the guys and they said no problem. Well a few days later they called and said the wrenches were done. And here they are.
I cleaned them up, and painted them with hammerite paint, and while they look good, and I will probably never need them again, there they sit in my garage. But here is the kicker. Take a look at the bill.
Oh well, you live and learn. I'm thinking of donating them to the Carquest Auto Parts Store in case I can save someone from going through the same thing. And yes I also realize that I am the only one who can turn something like this into a report with pics, which leads me to the inescapable conclusion........I NEED TO GET A LIFE!!! Oh and I drove the truck today, first storm since winter, its not looking very good out there. I should have cleaned the chimney out. And yes there is a possibility that I have ADD or AHAD or STP or WD 40. Have a great day.

So true about making our own tools. Usually mine are improvised tools, which in frustation, don't last long or just enough let to me destroy something.
Labor is always a bitch. One of the proud reasons why I always do my own work.
