Bike just cuts off after 10 miles or so
Hi, got an old 89 ninja 600. Great bike, runs great, until recently this started happening: I'll be on the highway going for maybe ten minutes or so and then the bike will just suddenly cut off. RPMs go to zero, done. I pull over, praying nobody turns me into a pancake, wait about five minutes and it starts again. Okay, so I checked the hoses and they seemed fine. The plugs are new, the fuel filter is new. I tried opening up the tank and letting it run with the tank open to see if it was a vac problem....nope. Tried turning up the idle. Nope. WTF? Could it be a carb issue? Seems to run fine when the bike just needs to go to the store and back. Only on slightly longer runs. Getting annoyed with this. Any ideas? Appreciate it!

If I had to guess, I would think a fuel problem.. Are you sure the tank is not on reserve..You might try turning the fuel petcock the other way and see what happens... I had a very similar problem once and it was a restricted fuel line... You might also try some Berryman carb cleaner. Berryman is the best in my opinion. It dissolves varnish, etc, almost instantly. It comes in a little metal can. Pour about 1/4 of the bottle in..
Maybe a coil getting hot..and shutting down. Next time it dies try pulling a plug wire and jump it off of metal and see if you have spark. If you do, it has to be fuel related.. Good luck man..

I wonder if it could be electrical? I don't know much about motorcycle charging systems, but maybe your alternator/stator isn't providing enough juice to keep the battery fully charged.
