i have a 95 zx6r that is still at the bike shop and they redid the carbs and they also put new floats in the carbs. now what they are tell me is that you can ride for 5 miles and then cuts out and dies. when i brought it there to the shop, the bike ran fine and i had never had the problem with it. they said that they have changed the fuel filter and the fuel lines and that it does it on reverve and the main fuel. any ideas?????

 

First thought is improper fuel level adjustment. I would back track and check that first.

 

how do you adjust it? and would it be like too much air and not enough gas? that wat you mean? or too much gas and not enough air?

 

You had new floats installed. Guessing that with possible improper float height at 4000rpm lets say for 5 miles, maybe one of the floats is not filling properly to maintain that. Cuts out, sputters and you pull over. Does it restart after you end up stopping?

edit: I take it that you do not have your manual just yet to adjust your float height. Give me a few minutes then for pics.

i dont know, i havent ridden it since i took it to the shop this is what the mechanic said... what would happen if it started and or if it didnt start? cus im going to ask him this stuff tommrow.

 

Well, then your mechanic should know how to adjust float height and know the numbers then for your application. Although that is my first thoughts on the possible issue, and there are always something else like a pinched hose, etc.

 

i mean they have had my bike for 3 goin on 4 weeks now and im kinda gettin pissy

 

yup, I get that way after 2 days. (Sometimes it is faster to take your bike to the professionals.)

edit: I am not a pro, I just tinker with bikes. good luck though. Service Fuel level is .5 +/-1mm above the bottom edge of the carburator body.

Tilt just enough to touch and close the float the float valve, but...

Do NOT compress the float valve spring when measuring (only exception is 95-97 zx6r)
