OK, I have a 1980 KZ1300 Kawasaki ... We can get the bike to idle perfect, (on choke)but if we try to shut the choke off, or try to give it any gas at all, it shuts off .... we seen thatthe gas linehad a piece of copper tubing connecting them ... A bike shop told us that the fuel pump was bypassed and the bike will not run without the fuel pump connected ... welllllllllllll It ran perfect for the last 10 years like that (it was like that when I bought it)... But I am not sure it is a fuel pump at all ...I am going to start another thread with that as the title incase someone knows exactly what it is for if no one lookingin here is sure, becouse it does not work like a fuel pump at all ... but if anyone has an idea why it will idle but nothing more, please let me know ... all six cylinders are running good and all the pipes get hot, so evidently everything seems to be in order

 

I am not sure either. Get a fuel pressure from that tube that you are mentioning.

 

Was looking at a pdf of a kz550 and at the moment have not found a fuel pump. Floats and needles on the carb are talked about alot though.

 

Have you checked your main jets to see if they are cloged. You might think of pulling carb and cleaning them. If you havent already done so.

 

OK, I am thinking that taking the carbs apart and cleaning them is going to have to be done.... I just thought maybe someone else had the problem and maybe a simpler solution we could try... I didn't think so really, but it doesn't hurt to ask anyhow... Thanks for the help
