More Miles, More Fun, More Pics
Rolled over 600 miles last night on the new bike. The engine is feeling stronger and smoother all the time but I am feeling a slight surge at part throttle around 4500 to 5000 rpm. Dealer told me it was normal since the engine was so lean from the factory. The surge may have always been there and I've never noticed it before and just now feel it as I learn all the nuances of the bike. Anyone else have this?
Anyway here's some pics.
At a creek in West Fork Arkansas.

On Mt Sequoyah overlooking Fayetteville Arkansas.
I've got a new weekend riding mate who rides a KLR650. He lives down the street from me. Funny how you never notice other riders and the machines they own until you yourself become a rider. Anyway it turns out my new friend organizes large group rides and he's known as "Spanky" over at the KLRWorld forums. He's a moderator there. Small world eh?
He's an experienced rider and dual sporter and I'm sure I can learn a lot from him.
I told him about this forum and what a great and friendly hangout it was.
Took these pics at a backroads crossing of the Illinois River and the ancient bridge near Lake Wedington.

What do you mean?? Just look at those tires! They're filthy!!!
The pics at the bridge were taken not long after we forded a fast running creek just past knee deep, didn't think to take pics but we got soaked. Not my fault is was pretty clean water with a slippery round stone bottom, not much mud to speak of.
I think you meant when am I going to get her muddy?

Well guys I got her stuck on a bank of the Illinois River yesterday while following a friend on his Kawi Bayou 4 wheeler.
Pretty deep water and made it across fine but when I went up on the high bank the back tire kicked a big rock loose sinking the rear tire in a hole and high centering the bike on the steep bank.
Good thing the water isn't that cold yet..
We got her unjammed and the bike is fine.
I need a skid plate.
Did some technical style logging trails too and that's one thing I'm finding out about this bike is how forgiving it is. It's got all the power one needs to get you out of just about any situation but it's not so powerful it makes it difficult to control in the slow treacherous stuff.
Arkansas is a great state to ride in but I was raised in Gallup New Mexico where one can drive off the road just about anywhere and ride into the sunset. Arkansas is pretty heavily forested with lots of fenced private property but it's very scenic.
I would like to get some desert action on this bike. This new crew I ride with is talking about doing another Moab Utah run and man I would love to get in on that next year.
