well, with most insurance company it depends alot on your age, driving record, and motorcycle experiance..... generally the rates are pretty high here in california.... but i have an agent who's really good at keeping the rates real low.... Pm me if your interrested and i could give you his PHONE number.... i pay 140 for full coverage on my 05 636, and 2000 dodge P/U... which is really good, considering i highest quote i got was 600 a month for 8 months.... i was like, " you got to be sh!tting me".... so good luck...

One other factor to toss in there. How much of a difference ,if any, is there between insuring a 500 or a 600? What does insurance usually go for in the Bay area(roughly)

Whats up mk, did you get that ride in.
I'm 19 soon to be 20. I've been driving since 16, so almost 4 years of driving. I have one speeding ticket in NJ and that's it. That was over a year ago. As far as accidents, none that were my fault. I'm only going to get liability because I have a million security camera's at school and I will have the bike inside at home. I was thinking it would be about $100 a month. I went to Geico.com but they didn't help. I couldn't get a quote unless I put down the owner's name or something like that.
I got my quote through Progressive as well. MUCH cheaper than Geico was to me. Of course, I don't need full coverage, and my bike is an 88. BUT, on topic of size...
I have never ridden a 250 Ninja. I had the um...pleasure?.. of starting out on a NightHawk 250 belonging to my step-dad. While great to learn on, I found two things...I wasn't very comfortable on it, and was literally overthinking every move on it, and two, it made my hands (and other body parts) numb on the highway after a few minutes. It was reving so high to stay at speed...NOW, the Ninja 250 I would imagine would feel about the same, comfort-wise, as a N 500. I think the power being greater, might make for a more comfortable experience. I know that I'm comparing apples to donuts (oranges are fruits too, and it isn't that close) with the NH and the Ninja 750 I have now. But I am so comfortable on mine now, that riding is like an extension of me. I don't have to analyze EVERY SINGLE move I make to ride safely. I'm also 6' , 190lbs. Just my 2 cents. I would say go for the 500. Unless you plan on really upping yourself very soon. I know a guy who went out and bought a new 250, and a month later, wanted off it. Mainly the power thing, from what I'm told.
It does, like has been said, all come down to how you FEEL on the bike. Let that be your governing factor. Try to find some people with either choice, see if they'll trust you enough to ride theirs around town a little maybe, to get a feel of it.
