RE: helmet shield
99% of iridiums are tinted, but the Suomy shields are clear with an iridium coating (retail is like $80.00) I used to go with iridiums, but after about a season, the iridium would scratch and sometimes flake off. Now I just go with a dark smoke. After one night of riding with my iridium, I just flipped it up and rode with clear safety glasses on, it was too dark for me at night.

I'm sure dark smoke is dark at night, but not as much. I personally prefer just regular, clear shields because there's nothing to obscure my vision of the road. It's also nice to have to wear eyeglasses because I don't always have to flip my visor down unless I'm going freeway speeds.

i really dont think that dark smoke is darker than iridium. i already bought mine and its iridium silver and isnt bad at night at all...dark smoke is like a window tint

Ya I don't ride at night with a dark smoke either, only during the day cuz it's too dark. I just prefer the dark smoke to iridium during the day becuz my irdium scratches too easy.

I ride a lot to and from work. I get there in the sun and leave in the dark. I took the advice of someone here on the boards a long time ago and invested in a face shield bag. Picked it up at Cyclegear for $15. Nicely fleece lined with a strong canvas back. I wear the Iridium to work, and switch to a clear one on the way home at night. Small enough to put under your jacket if you're trying to stay low key as well. I usually just strap it tight to the top of my backpack. Mine's made by motrax, but nearly everyone makes em
