Default Rocker(valve) cover gasket replacement

I own a 1995 Vulcan 1500 with 9400 miles. I am attempting to replace the rocker (valve) cover gasket on the rear cylinder. I am able to remove the bolts and right side chrome rocker arm case cover; however, I cannot remove the bolts that hold the left side chrome rocker arm case cover. I am able to loosen the bolts; however, the bolts (primarily the front one) will hit into the bottom part of the top frame that goes over the cylinder. Can anyone give me any advice regarding removal of these bolts so that I can remove the left rocker arm case cover to access the rocker arm cover to replace the gasket? Or does the engine have to be removed ( I hope not!) in order to replace the gasket? Thank you.
