Hi folks, I have a 1990 d1 and recently the gears are getting quite difficult to change, it started off with only 4th gear, but now its 5th, 6th, up the box and down the box. I am relatively new to biking and would very much appreciate any advice.

welcome to KF. i would start with changing the oil first.

 

Hi my ZZR had synthetic oli inside when i bought it and the gears were really stiff, i've changed to mineral based oil and they are a loteasier to change.
