Bike tie down
yes compress the forks enough to maintain tension but don't bottom them out.
on my truck it worked best to wrap the tie down around the top of the tripple clamp (one on each side) over to the sides of the bed. then on the rear i wrapped it around the top of the wheel and ratched each side to the bedrail. never had it shift on me once.

oh - and i would put it on the kickstand to hold it, then attach the left side strap with just a hair of slack, then ratchet down the right side straps, this lifted the bike off the kickstand and i would then put it up.
i got it in the bed and its all good. it aint moving at all. i made some ramps out of 2x8s . i got a kit to make my own at lowes. works just fine.
another thing i do when hauling a bike is when i first take off give the wheel a little shake back and forth to see how much movement is there then tighten if needed
