wow !! it wasnt that big but it was no smaller then a medium sized book. i can only remember her first name being robin and she had a son that was a diabetic also named christopher. keep in mind that kids probley 25 now and his mom mabey 55-60's.

 

Been a coupla weeks now. How's the pump working out for you?

 

i talked to the guy from minimed on monday (5-15-06) he said they were waiting on one more authorization from ym insurance company and it was a done deal. he was supposed to give me a call monday 5-22-06 and he never did. so nothing yet. i did go to the classes and stuff and a few of the hands on pump training classed. great info, i should of done this 15 years ago. ill keep it posted when i get it.

 

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 when she was 5, she is now 13 and lives her life to the full m8, she is on 48 ml of insulin a day (2 injections) she uses a human mixtard it's just a little glass vile that fits inside what looks like a pen ,

I had a phobea of needles ( being a firefighter too lol ) but once i overcame that giving my daughter the injections was no prob now she is older she test her own blood 3 to 4 times a day and is just starting to do her own injections, unfortunetly it is a serious condition if it is not treated and looked after properly , but u sound like a sensible guy so i wouldn't worry to much thier are worse things in life , be positive about it and read up on as much as you can , if u go to the classes ask about your diet or see a dietician , belive it or not your diet is the most important thing with this condition,

once u have lived with it for a bit and learn how to controll it you wouldn't know u had it just make sure to test regularly and take your proper dose of insulin and eat the correct foods at the proper times bro , good luck though m8 and i hope every thing works out well for you,,..


P.s thier is alot of research that has being going on for a few years now and the results are looking good , one of the things they have tried that i know of in the USA is doing a transplant using a pigs pancreas even my daghters consultant is talking about this being possible in the near future ............

 

i think for my sake, transplants and cures are far from ready but hopefully there will be a cure for the next generation coming up. the pump is pretty much the closest thing to having a real pancreas so im just happy to get that ! did you hear about the girl in england or someplace out that way that had a test shot of cells to her pancreas and it worked ? now that would kick ***. it was a out patient type deal, one shot with a big needle long enough to go into the panc and done.

i can phisically give myself shots and give other people shots but if i just think about it it grosses me out.

 

All good feedback. As I understand it, the current problem with islet cell (cells that make insulin) transplants, is that they cannot feasably clone or farm enough islet cells fast enough to address the diabetic community. Evil - I completely agree, the pump is as close to a pancreas as you can get - especially considering it uses short acting insulin - which is what your pancreas makes too.

Recently, the guy I used to work for at MiniMed (he's no longer with them either) found out his 13 yr old daughter has type 1, he had to put her on injections for a few months; but knowing the options, he got her on the pump as soon as possible. Her HbA1c's dropped to a much better level and have now become more consistent (this is very important for long term complications - eyes, circulation, etc). Not to mention he was dealing with a 13 year old girl going through puberty........but uhhhhh, hopefully you don't have that problem!

 

heres a update:; i recieved the million dollar box a few days ago and have read everything that i can possible read on this thing, also looking for anything extra online. i have pump training with my specialist sometime this week and i should be wired up to it by friday. ill keep it posted on how it goes and how this thing is so if anyone else is interested or knows someone there will be some info to share. heres some pics of it.

Finally !! Hell yes man.... That is a pretty small looking unit. I guess you have to refill it. How long does it last between refills?

 

its a 300 unit ressi so it should last 3 days. they recamend changing the infusion site every 2 or 3 days so it should work out perfect, change/refill and good to go another 3 days. im excited to get it on and working and at the same time im not. know what i mean.
