hey everyone, so i bought a 96 zx9r from some kid and am trying to get it running correctly. first off- when i bought the bike, he handed me a manual (haynes) for a zx7 which i thought was odd. so after he brings me the bike (trailered it-i got a really good deal on it) i start going through it. doesnt want to run for nothing and then it hits me..... i look at the zx7 manual he had given me and its got greasy fingerprints all over it!!
so i start from square one- reset the cams/valve timing, hooked up the coils correctly, new spark plugs, alternator wired up correctly (only 2 wires and he screwed that up !) new fuel pump,new battery,cleaned and set the carbs, checked the pick-up coil, jetted,re-jetted and re-jetted until im blue in the face!!! nothing helps !
stats: 2 bros. full exhaust,dynojet jet kit, k&n filter.
only thing i havent changed is the cdi box and was hoping wouldnt have to. anyone have any similar problems? runs and pulls HARD in 1st gear, free-revs smooth and strong but soon as i hit 2nd gear it justs cuts out and stutters to the point of stalling. im losing my mind here !!
