ZX-7R Clicking Noise

ZX-7R Clicking Noise
I have a 2001 ZX-7R and I've been having an odd problem. When I try to start the bike, the junction box makes a weird clicking nose. I've looked this up on other forums, and have tried the method where you hold down the starting button and then knock on the junction box and that almost always works. I recently purchased a new junction box, but am still having the same problem. I'm pretty sure it's not the battery because I can jump start the bike, and when I hold a screwdriver from the battery to the starter cable it starts up with no problem. Does anyone have any other ideas that I can try? Thanks!

Welcome Hub!! Agree^, you might also check the ground connection, as well as the contact in the actual starter button. If bikes have been left outside, (and through normal use), some corrosion can get on the contact points inside the "return spring" inside the starter button assembly. This gives a weak (at best) connection to the solenoid and the bike "thinks" the battery is low; thus "click, click click.". Be careful getting the starter button off, because there is a (CHEAP-O) pivot hinge that will crack. Put just a VERY SMALL bit of grease on the pivot pin, and superglue the two sides of the plastic pivot back together. Check Drag's suggestion first^. The starter button thing can be a PITA.
