I got my swing arm for this project out of the shed today. It's in need of paint stripping and some prep work but nothing too major. I actually needed it to measure for the titanium parts I'll be making for it. The arm is for the 91-92 J & K models. It's lighter than the L,M,N & P swing arms.

I also discovered this in my stash of parts:

Original exhaust bracket for the K models.

Just a quick update to explain my lack of progress. I've spent just about 25% of this year out of state working so that's really killed progress. The second thing that has been taking my attention was another bike. Valentine's Day Weekend I drove across 3 states to pick up another M model ZX7R.I stopped at Niagara Falls with the wife and step daughter on the way home. It's the least I could do since she bought the bike.

I'm going to post pics but I want to warn you all that this is not a pretty bike. The bike had been stored in a driveway under a tarp for about 10 years. In a very cold parts of the U.S.
The previous owner had spent the last 2 years doing a double negative on it; he was working on making some sort of street fighter out of it and he scrapped the tail plastics to add a passenger seat using ZX7 L tail panels. Somewhere in its life the aluminum tank went away. The p.o. had no knowledge of any other tank besides the steel L model tank on it when I bought it. Fortunately I have spares of those parts and the correct stock shock to replace them. The shock isn't an "issue" so to speak. The bike came with an Ohlins shock on it that I will remove and install on my current project. I was surprised to see the shock since the seller made no mention of it. All the other stock parts were with the bike ( M subframe, seat linkage, flatslides, forks and even stock exhaust). He destroyed the muffler though. All of this is a shame since the bike only shows 7,100 miles.

He also told me he had the engine rebuilt and paid a small fortune to have it done. I'm not entirely sure it was done right because I found a set of oil pump drive gears in one of the many boxes of parts I got with it. So I will be tearing the engine down to inspect and correct everything as necessary.

This will not be a quick process in any way for this bike. The upside is that I plan to restore it to completely bone stock down to the stock exhaust. The only variances will possibly the air filter and carb jetting to make it run right.

Does anyone have a stock muffler for the 93-95 L models or 93-94 M models they want to sell?

I did manage to tear the new one down last week. I'm not starting the project right now, but I needed to disassemble it to fix everything so I decided to do that now. It's easier to store it all this way too.

It was a very nice day so I decided to work outside.

All you guys with M's know these are some very hard to find parts:

Like I said before, it's got the really hard to find stuff with it. The only parts that are missing are bodywork pieces.

As a side note, the frame and swing arm are dent and road rash free.

The last time the bike was inspected was May 2003.It's been 10+ years since, which supports the P.O.'s claim it had been parked for 10 years.

It will get cleaned up and rebuilt for use on my current M project. I have a stock ZX7R shock that I'll be using on the 94 when it gets restored.
