Default All I hear is clicking...

I was riding my 1995 ZX-7 the other day and all was good. I park it over night, and I apparently left the key in park, so the back light was on. The battery died, and I charged it up and it cranked over but didn't start. Now, after hours upon hours of charging all I hear is clicking. I figured since I hear clicking that it isn't the starter, so I get a new battery...still nothing but clicking. Any ideas?

Did you put the bike in neutral, pull the clutch in and then try starting? My ZX7R used to not care if the clutch was pulled in but just recently started requiring it to start the bike. Otherwise I hear the clicking too.

Interesting. The new battery should be charged but did you make sure the terminals where tight with good connections as well as check the voltage?

Actually - they may not have charged it... verify it works... lights bright? horn loud? Turn signals flash at correct speed and bright?

Everything is working, except for the bike...lol...I really don't know what else to do except take it in to the shop. At first the main light didn't work, now it is bright as all get out...but it will not crank! Should I just take it in, or jump it?

Kinda sounds like your starter is there but the torpue is not from the starter. I am sitting on the sidelines here.

I think that you are right Dragone#19, so I am just going to foot the bill and get it taken to a shop and have them see what the problem is. I just know that it is going to cost an arm and a leg for it to get fixed, plus having to find the parts for an older bike are going to be a pain!

You have a starter relay correct? So do some baseline voltages on that relay. Should prove battery or the relay voltage drops. If voltage is good, then look into the mechanical issues.

I think that's what the problem is...I called the shop and they kinda hinted that the starter relay could be the problem, but of course only further dianostic would determine the actual problem.

well i am new to bikes but old with cars
here is what I think it could be
cars its called the cylanoid or do bikes even have those?
or its the starter, some starters have them built into them and
if its not on the bike its probly in the starter.
I dont know if that is what is called a starter relay or not
to cross it is to take a screw driver and bridge the sercit and it should start.
or i hope so.
