Default Valve clearance? 04 636

So I checked the clearance in my valves to try and find the source of my engines increased clicking. No dice.

Measured in inches from left to right:

Tolerances .009-.012 inches
Exhaust: .010 .009 .011 .010 .008 .006 .008

Tolerances .004-.008 inches
Intake: .005 .004 .0045 .0055 .0045 .005 .004 .0045

So with only 3 valves slightly out of tolerance on the tight size I doubt this is where my clicking resides. The CCT is my next suspect is there a way to adjust the factory one or reset it. My 04 engine has 22000 miles on it but runs very strong.

Any ideas?

Buy an APE or Kawasaki Race Kit Manually adjustable tensioner. The APE is cheaper; about $50. The stock one has too much play in it. Just make sure to have the engine at #1 TDC when you change it.

Yeah it was stuck in the head in those recess things on the ends of the cams, and it got torn on the way out. What do you want for your old one?

Let me check the condition it's in to make sure it's not damaged and I'll let you know. In the meantime, use RTV to fix/ seal the gasket if you really need to ride.

I got it to not leak. Definitely top end rattles though if it isnt the CCT then I am going to say f this and keep riding it. I mean if a motor runs this good with 22k miles on it then there must not be too much wrong with it.

That is true. If all the cleaances are good, don't worry about it. As the motor wears, it will make more noise. It's a high performance engine and will make noise. As long as it's not an abnormal sound. The ticking could also be the little reed valves on top of the valve cover or even a slight exhaust leak which usually sounds like ticking. Try tightening the header nuts. Get the block-off plates or try filling it with High Temp RTV.

I will just throw another valve cover gasket on it and keep riding. I dont think .003 inches will cause interference between a valve and a piston will it?
