no low end power
high guys i im looking to purchase a 04 636, well i cam from a 1990 zx 1000, now my old runs great just looks like crap. well when i test drove the 636, well 2 different beast, my question is it common to get no low end power? i mean do u have to rev this lil 636 to truly feel the power? i mean my old zx10 if i have it in good rpms and i twist the throttle it will move, now i dont know what rpms because i have no tach, or speedpmeter(streetfighter) lol, so i was just wondering. when i rode it i didnt really rev past like 7-9 grand? so is the power in these bike above that? or is there something werong with that bike, it is a salvage title dude to a "low side " drop, so plz can i get some input. thanx alot
You can't compare a ZX10 to a 636. Yes, you will have to rev it more to feel the power. Past 7- 8,000 rpm is where they start to make power. Your old ZX10 had a lot more low-end power than even the newer ZX10's but can't compare to the top-end power of the New 10's. 165 plus rear wheel HP!
cool
yes the bike will rev up, i was just wondering about the revs i was thinking thas what i needed to do, yeah this old zx 10 has some ***** in the low end but it flattens out alot once to start to rev it, thanks for the psot guys i have lil to no exp on the 600cc, i liek caus ether eso light and compact compared to my old zx10 ways about twice as much

The 636 doesn't really come alive until 9-10k rpms, after that make sure both hands are on the handlebars cause it pulls like a raped ape. The exhaust has a servo controlled butterfly valve that is closed (very little exhaust flow) to help build back compression which helps with the low end power when below 10,000 rpms. Once you get above that magic number, it starts to open up and the exhaust performs more like a wide open system.
Try to ride another 636, if it is really that bad, maybe the exhaust is not working. If it stays wide open at low rpms, you will loose a ton of low end power due to low compression.

hey man i have a 04 zx 636 myself, and me just like u used to ride the older style sport bikes, i had a 93 gixxer1100, lowered & stretched with a je piston kit, and 39mm Keihns, and i got to tell u riden this 636 is a blast on the street and on the track, the power to weight ratio is unbelievable compared to the older style bikes i have riden, i also have -1 +2 gearing so that helps out alot for more low end pullin power, and i also weight 230 pounds, also i have a pc111 with a custom map, yoshi high mount, k&n filter with air box mod, but u will have to get the bike up to atleast 8 rpm to feel the power tho, once after that hang on bc u will be in for a ride, also these bikes rev quick so u will see 8 rpm quick
yeah everytime i race someone i make sure my rpm guage is around 8k, i can power wheelie it at around 6k in 1st gear super easy in stock form. my opinion is that they got more ***** from 8k to 13k than any of the 600's. just my opinion.
Mine doesn't have the exhaust valve so the Back-Pressure isn't variable on my 03. Only the 05-06's have the valve. I have Race Cams, Race ECU, PCIII and mine pulls strong from around 6K. I just installed another Race ECU with a different program and man, what a difference. The bike actually has some grunt down low now and crazy midrange compared to before. I haven't opened her up yet but she feels a lot more powerful. The timing must be advanced more. I am doing 70 MPH at 7K RPM andshe wants to run like a race horse. I haven't even installed the BMC air filter yet; still have the stock one. I can just imagine the top-end on this now. Gotta get my Speedo Healer installed so I can get an accurate MaximumTop Speed.
