newbie oil check

Default newbie oil check

i just bought a 95 zx6r and am trying to find a manual for it so i can work on it but meanwhile where do i check the oil at? im afraid its low. i thought it was on the bottom right in the little round window. shouldnt it read halfway in the window? where do i put oil in at and what kind should i use? thx a lot.

That window is what you use the check the oil. Full should show as 3/4 of the window showing oil. if its 1/4 then the oil is low. You should try to keep it at full but if its any place inbetween 3/4 to 1/4 then its ok. If you look above the window you should see a cap you can unscrew.That is where you add oil. As far as what kind ofoil to use kind of depends on what oil is in it. I would sugest if you dont' know whats in it then just change the oil.

If its got a few thousand miles you might want to use full synthetic oil when you do an oil change.

cool thx, yea it has 14K on it and i just bought it so i have no idea what kind of oil is in it. as soon as i get my Haynes manual itll be changed and yea ill use the good stuff.

if you are running a 95 and there isnt synthetic oil in it you prolly shouldent run synthetic oil in it, it will hurt more than it is going to help

I work in a bike shop and we are anti synthetic...if your bike sits for a little while synthetic oil will drain off the cyclinder walls alot faster and its not good for the cylinder and piston...but thats just what ive read but if i was you i would just change the oil that way you know what oil is in it and when to change it...good luck and enjoy riding
