Don't worry. Most of us do it. There is a point where the gears are "syncronized" an you can "slip" from one to the next without the clutch. It is easier in bikes than in cars and I woul not recommended it in low gears (1 and 2).
Motorcycles have a "constant mesh" style clutch that is constantly gripping and slipping enough so that the clutch is not needed for upshifts, completely different from cars, there is no special sync'd spot. Downshifting without the clutch is not great for it but can be done, just not recommended. If you are in neutral, at idle and hit the shifter into 1st the bike will barely move forward before stalling, you probably won't even lose balance. Just be careful not to hit it when on the bike.
When racing, I never use the clutch to upshift. I keep my foot under the shifter with just a little pressure. When I want to shift, I blip the throttle a little and kick it up a gear. Goes smooth as butta!

Almost all motorcycle racers upshift without the clutch and there are quickshift devices that you can buy that allow you to upshift even without letting off the gas. These devices cut ignition for a millisecond to take the load off the transmission gears and allow them to slide to the next cog. If you practice and get really good, you can do it almost as fast/ quickly.
