636 compared to an R6
Hey everyone,
Im in the market to buy a new/used bike and im really leaning towards the zx-636.
Is there anything i should be worried about buying a used 2005/2006 636 with low miles? The body is mint and looks awesome, but im afraid of running into something that is a known issue or that ill have to fix 2000 mile down the road.
I just sold my 2002 R1, and looking to get back on the road ASAP.
What does everyone think of the 2005+ 636's and 2004+ R6's?
Thoughts/Ideas?

the only thing i would worry about with the 636 is having too much fun. wich would result in playing hookie from work wich in turn you might loose your job for poor attendance. then spirals down hill from there. welcome to KF. don't know about yami sorry.

I have yet to hear of any common problems with the 636's. You really want to look at the 2005+ model years as there where many changes to the bike over the 2004. The R6 will be lighter and smaller, but the 636 will walk away from it in any performance test and is more comfortable unless you are 4'6"-120lbs. The Yamaha is very good looking, its a toss up between that and the ZX-6R in looks but I love the riding comfort of my 636 and the center rear exhaust.

I do infact love the center rear exhaust on the zx6. Easier to lane split and not worry about the can scrapping the side of some pimped out yaris and have the kid try to drag you a 1/4 mile down the road.
How bout gas mileage? What does everyone seem to be getting?

Welcome to the forum. I get 40-45 MPG commuting on my 03 636. Fast or Hot-Rod riding/ racing will drop that faster. Can't go wrong with the 05-06 636. Great all around full Super-sportbike. Way more comfortable than the R6, more mid-range & top-end power. Lots of parts available for these bikesfairly cheap. Only common problem is the cam chain noise but that's a fairly easy fix. Great handling also and very fast! I rode with my friend and he had an 04 R1; I didn't have any problems keeping up. Heck, I rode with a group of ZX14's & Busa's in the twisties with no problem being up front on my 03 636. These bikes do it all well. How often are you gonna go 170 plus?

haha, thanks for that response. Lots of info!
I only see myself doing a little bit over 150 on the track, if i do decide to track test this bike, if i buy it. That is pretty good mileage
