oppinions please
im going to the dealer to purchase the zx10R but befre i take it home i am goign to have him install a full systen micron serpant exhaust, k&Nfilter, and powercommander. He has a dyno ther and is goign to dyno tune it for me for max hp at all rpm;s. what im concerned about is, is it bad to have it dyno tuned before its broken in? should i have him install mods. let me break the bike in and then bring it back for tuning?

Do what you want to... this subject has plenty of different opinions... Just ask dealer the same question and see what they say. In fact I'm curious to see what they will say, as far as there break in goes.

RE: oppinions please
Break in procedures say not to go over 4k rpms for 500 miles. A lot, not all dyno operators will run the bike to the rev limiter. It's not at that high rpm's for long. Personlly I would go ahead and get the pipe, PC, ect. and ride it for a few thousand miles. Get it all broke in. Then go get it dyno'd. I think you would get a better HP readout then anyway.

While Im a fan of breaking in harder than the factory specs with more oil changes, I would not want to dyno it at 0 miles. He will full power it close to redline for more than 1 time if he is going to make changes in the fuel curve. It may take a few runs to get it right. I would not go redline a new bike untill 800-1000 miles and several heat cycles.I woulddownload the dynojet map temporarily so as to have it dialed in 90% during break in and have it dyno tuned around 1000 miles, my 2cents.

RE: oppinions please
i would say stay off the mods for now until it's "broken in" properly, and again that goes many ways, some say go by the manufacturers specs and others, like the link posted earlier is a way i have heard that turns out better, but until i see first hand that work on a friends bike or something, i'm not going to try it, although I remember one of the AMA suzuki superbikes was brand new, engine completely stock put on all mods, everything prepped for race, 0 miles, dynoed the bike full out for power, then raced it, after the race dynoed again, and it was about 5 percent up in power, and no significant problems with the engine at all, so its very opinioned and continues to grow as to what's the best proceedure, IMO i would just say lay off the mods, follow the manufacturers recommendations but be sure to change ur oil quickly, like 20 or 30 miles to flush out all the comtaminents from the break-in

RE: oppinions please
My first question would be who put the engine together and at what tolerances? The factory. So I would break her in and get the feel for the ride before anything else. Then play with her. Tolerances are a big deal and factory does not always make it good. My opinion
