Default Should i get a 500R?

a local dealer has a 04 ninja 500R with 12.7k miles fresh tires and "full service"... They are asking 3.7k out the door. Seems like a reasonable price? KBB retail is at 3.3k. I really want this bike. Ive wanted to get into biking for awhile now. Ive put enough money into the camaro and hate when i get beat by a stock gxsr, its kind of aggravating. Ive looked everywhere online and every where i looked suggests this 500R as a first bike. Ive sat on one and it seemsed a little small but i fit. Im 6'6" which dosent help but everyones gotta start somewhere! What do u guys think?

That price seems high to me. I've put 10K on a used '05 Ninja 500R that had 2,500 miles on it and its a good starter bike, but I didn't pay that much andat that price you mightalmost be better off springing for a new one that'sunder warranty off the floor. You'll have repairs and expenses ona used one, no doubt,so you really might be better off getting a new one depending upon what they're going for these days.

I was thinking of selling mine and trading up to a bigger bikebut I've decided not to sell it given some bad stuff that's happened to me lately(nothing to do with biking)so I'm sticking with what I paid for and my 150,000 mile Nissan for bad weather(still paying the Nissan off and will be for a while, but at least the bike was paid for, all cash up front).

Take a look around, you should find something cheaperin about the same condition as the one you're looking at.

I got my 05 last year for $3500 with less than 3k miles on it, but it wasnt from a dealer. I think thats a little pricey. I got mine off of craigslist, lots of good deals on there.

+1 for Craigslist. I've been seeing a lot of motivated sellers on there. Times are tough...for those who don't realize / don't care about the gas savings, they're liquidating their toys. The guy that sold me his bike did so by order of his pregnant wife. LOL.

That's pretty steep for a used bike. You must want it pretty bad, judging from how much they're asking.
Dealership salesmen develop a knack for figuring out how badly we want a bike (and therefore how much they can get away with charging for it.)
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Peace!

I bought mine in Feb of this year. It was a new 2007 for only $3999 plus TTL. 0 miles, full waranty, 2007 - I think it is worth a few hundred dollars, just my opinion.

one of their tricks is asking what you want to spend on a bike... you say 3000 dollars... then they say "up to?" and you say "4000"

you just gave em 1000 more bucks.

Get one, I'm 6'4" and fit on it fine. A bigger bike would be nicer, but the bike seems alright to me. Get one!!!

make sure its a cheaper one though
