Jetting....is it necessary?
Do I have to "Jet" My Carbs on my 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 500 if I put a slip on exhaust on it? My buddy who has been riding for years said that there is no increase of HP to be had with a slip on installed to an EX500. If that is the case, then can I skip "jetting" the carbs? Or do I still have to do it? =/
I agree with your buddy on the slip on comment making little increases in power improvements. However, the engine is just part of the ride package, so if you change one thing, then you have to tune it for that change. The exhaust will alter your powerband for example, so now you need to alter the mains to make that power for your expectations, along with gearing, and other alterations to your ride. Tune your ride as a package. So yes to checking and adjusting your carbs to make your ride a total package. The 500 was never known to be a big hp/tq machine, so I would suggest tuning up the suspension first along with good tires over an exhaust update.
enjoy and ride safe
