gas tank
my tank was completely emptied today i put 1 gallon in then drove 1/2 block to fill up and i put in an additional 2.7 gal(w/ the bike on the side stand :P) so thats it? 3.7 gallons roughly is all it holds? its a 92 ex500. i have put 3.6 gallons in it b4 and i was still not on reserve....any input?
it will hold about a gallon more than that. its 4.8 with a .8 gallon reserve. try to keep it straight up when you fill it. either on the center stand or just by sitting on it. when i fill up i dont even get off usually

are ya sure cause idk it was right at the edge..a whole gallon more seems like alot especially for a 92...the only specs i can find on the bike claim 2.87 gallons which i know is bogus...but after reviewin several websites...i guess my tank is flawed lol
I've noticed that I'm unable to completely drain the fuel tank on my '06 too. We probably need to do some petcock-trimming to get at that last 1/4-gallon of gas sloshing in there. If I ever get around to it (not likely very soon due to recovery from back surgery) I'll post photos and a how to one my website.

ok ok i rechecked my friends "1 gallon" gas tank...it appears to him a "1" and a "2" are the same thing...so apparently he started my tank w/ 2 gallons (or 1 as he puts it ) then i added 2.7gal at the pump 1/2 a block away.. so 4.7 is close enough to 4.8 :P
i think i have figured out why i thought i had such a little tank...my extended fuel line's trap ...once the tank reached bout 1/2 there wasnt enough gas to continue to feed the line due to the trap so therefore it acts like its dyin for fuel i hit the reserve then bout a bit later im at the gas station fillin up and only gettin 2.5 -3 gallons in the tank...lol physics...who would have thunk it :P
I completely syphoned my gas tank empty. Or so I thought. Then I removed it and could still feel and hear gas sloshing around the bottom. When I removed the petcock from the tank I drained another 1/4 -1/2 gal. out of it. The tank took 4.8 gallons to fill when it is completely empty of all fuel. The bike will run out completely when it reaches the petcock reserve bottom. Which will still leave almost 1/2 gallon of gas in the tank! That means that with me getting 45mpg, I better start looking for a gas station to fill up when I reach 160 miles, which is where I switch to reserve giving me maybe another 30 miles if I am so lucky. So even if the tank is 4.8 gal. you can only use about 4 gallons of the tank. The rest is unreachable because of the petcock being too high.
