Default Cost and Year differences

I'm looking to buy a Ninja 500R and I was wondering what the average used cost for the bike is? I was also wondering if there were any real differences or upgrades by year. I know after 1993 they changed the name of the bike and a few things, but what is the last year model that I could get and it still be very similar to the obviously more expensive current model?

Thanks guys - I'm lookin forward to becoming a new rider!

buy the one that runs good (if you can have someone you trust test ride it) because there were no real major upgrades. Most likely, you will end up with craving for a different bike within a year.

btw, make sure to complete the MSF course if you are new to riding. also, join the team and buy a green ninja! "that's hawt!"

Default RE: Cost and Year differences

The bike has gone completely unchanged since 1994. Completely. The only change from year-to-year for FOURTEEN YEARS has been color!
I'd choose your three favorite colors, then check Cycletrader & Ebay for the one of of those colors in the best condition, THEN consider price.
If you save a few hundred bucks buying a bike that has been modded and beat to hell, it will ultimately cost more than a slightly fresher bike that has been adult-ridden and cared for.
I'd pay an extra $500 for a bike that was previously owned by a woman who is selling it to buy a Harley.
But if the bike were being sold by some dingbat 20-something with tattoos all over his neck and metal junk hanging out of his face, so he can get a "Gixxer-1000", I'd stride briskly away from the seller's driveway.

Because there have been so few changes over the years to this bike, the difference in price will not be as broad as the difference between a 2001 R6 and a 2006 R6. But because some sellers won't be aware of the longevity of this design, you still might find a bargain.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Peace!
