how can u tell if your bike is broken in or broken down. Mines is a 05 with 4200 miles on it. I'm new to riding and this is my 2nd day on it. I bought the bike from a guy. So i'm not sure if he broke it in correctly or broke it down. Thanks in advance. RSD.

 

Well RSD, there is no way of really knowing unless you tear the bike down, grab a mic and a spec book......

As long as she runs good, is not all beat up... You'll be okay..

A mechanic might be able to tell - I'm not sure though.

As for parts, depends on what you're looking for.........there are a couple of different manufacturers that make wind screens for the 500 (personally I got the Lockhart Phillips dark smoke one, looks awesome!), there are a couple of different exhausts that you can get (Muzzy is one of them), you can get flushmount signal lights as well.

There aren't a whole lot of upgrades for the 500 (seeing as it is a smaller market compared to the bigger bikes)

Anything in particular that you're looking for? I can do some digging and see what I can come up with.

 

fo sho bluebird. i know for a fact a that i'm going to upgrade for reasonable cause only. I want to get my bike painted white because i'm about to get a icon legion silver helmet and i will try to find a white jacket for all season. I'm only upgrading things for the bike that will get make me safe such as color, exhaust, lights (front HID). I think thats should be about it. Flush mounts maybe, its the last thing on my list.

p.s. i think i heard the guy at cycle depote (in eagle rock) say that the 500 can only have a full system exhuast. No slips on. I'm not sure because i didn't pay attention after i heard he say its gonna cost over $300 lol.

 

best way to know if the engine is in good shape is to do a compression test. If you have good compression, you're good to go!
