>>>>>>>>>> Who is following BREAK IN??!?
i rode mine for a max of 10 minutes for the first 50 miles, accellerating hard, then using engine to brake revving to 8500 in lower gears, you need to load up the rings to get them to seat. just don't get it too hot. changed the oil at 24 miles and it was loaded with sparklies. at 400 miles i have redlined it a couple of times but usually shift at 9000-10000. i'll change the oil again at 500 miles, dino oil not synthetic until about 1500 miles to let motor keep breaking in. the manual break in probably will glaze the cylinders and the rings won't ever seat fully. we'll see as a friend bought one and rode it under 4k for 300 miles. bet mine is faster and doesn't burn oil. j
I'm picking mine up in a little over a week, as soon as the dealer gets it.
I think engine ussage should be based on number of revolutions in addition to miles. It seems that would give used bike buyers a more accurate depiction of how the bike was treated before hand. In addition, do the manufacturers assume those 4,000 rpms are all going to be put on in 6th gear? There are a lot of variables. Can engine problems even be traced back to improper breakin???
Why can't i just get an old treadmill, pop the back wheel on it, leave it in first and set a timer??? I'd just do the math, leave it out over night and the next day I'd be set for some high revin fun!
I'm just glad mine's not gonna be a showfloor display or the one everyone test drives. It's MY baby and I'll do it my own way

I guess i will just have to ride it on the back streets for a while then if you can only go 36mph in final gear at that low RPM [:@][&:]
what does the 2008 top out at when broken in?

if your selling the bike anyways who cares. red line it and don't change oil.[:@]

....but change the oil anyway, you know; just for ****s and giggles...or learning to turn a wrench.
I followed it for 14 miles... in my drive way and in the yard! I had never rode one before and it's the only place I had to learn but then when I actually got out on the road with my friends they were taken off and leaving me so I said whatever and went with it and it rides great, still much slower than their Yamaha R6's but I'm the only girl that rides with them now so they tend to stay behind me regardless of the speed...
yea r6. ha. but its a great bike to start out on. but i am already wanting more top end i have the same problems with trying to keep up with people. my dad burned me on his sportster 1200 the other day.
I have had other bikes ranging in size from 125 to 900. Of all the bikes I've owned, the 250 is bar far the funnest bike I've owned. It handles real well and has enough to go when needed.
I'm still trying to get my 250 through the "break in" period s well. It's hard when all she wants to do is run! Overall, it's better to be safe than sorry. I've burned pistons on my old 600 Katana. Didn't follow the break in period and ran it like it was stolen. Gone in the first month. Did I mention that I really ran the heck out of it?????????
I like my Ninja, so on this one, I'll do as told (as much as possible).
Good luck with your new bikes. Remember, it's not how fast you go, but how much fun you have getting there!

I have an 09 KLX250, and it has the same 4k limit for breakin. Almost seems like a blanket statement doesn't it? I try to keep under 7k, but I do a bit of highway and 7 - 7.5k is just about perfect 108 - 112km/h roughly.
