Hey everyone who owns the 2008 250. Who is actually following the 4k max rev for 500 miles??! Seems very unreasonable. When i hit 150 miles i started revving to 6k on most gears and 10k for 6th gear.

What is your input on this? Should i wate till 500 miles? First servicing (600miles)? Dont wate at all and gun it?

P.S. >> I'm planning on selling this bike after this riding season to upgrade to much higher displacement bike.

Vary the rpm's the first 500 miles, or so,and ride it. Do the first service at 600 miles, just like the owner's manual says. You'll be fine.

The dealership I am getting it from is 100 miles away, through many highways. I can't be going 36mph on the highway.

What should I do?? I have no trailer etc.

I followed the break in for about 5 mins. It's impossible and unrealistic. I just rode it like I normally would. Haven't gone wot yet. I will wait until I change the oil. But I have gone up in the rpms. I've taken it on the highway and usually run about 9000rpm to 10000rpm that's about 75-85mph.

I think as long as you let the bike warm up, more than normal, and ride normally for awhile and then get on it a little here and there I don't see any harm in it. I think its when you just start it and then go out and redline it is where it might cause some problems.

Although whenever these bikes or anything for that matter gets tested you never see them break it in. They let it warm up, come to temperature and then pin the throttle. That's what I have always done and I haven't had one blow up on me yet.

I really think the slow break in is due to lawyers to cover their ***. I remember back in the 70's 80's when you got a brand new car they wanted you to get on it to break it in.

I lived 60 miles away from mine and I rode it home 50-60 mph varying the speed since it was highway/city riding. For the first 600, I only revved about 8K max, changed oil and filter at 600 and put in AMSOIL synthetic. Keep an eye on the oil level until the first change

When I had my Ninja I followed the break-in instructions to the letter, and I can sympathize with you, it was AGONIZING...not to mention prolly a little dangerous when you're riding stop and go in 50+mph speed limit areas on a bike that does its best acceleration at high rpms and you're trying to drive it like a damn diesel truck.

If I get another new bike I'll prolly just warm it up and stand on it.

I've kept my 08 250 under 9K rpm, but have only put around 125 miles on it.72 of it was 4 trips on the highway about 18 miles each way around 60-65mph. I changed the oil at 100miles to make sure there were no metal shavings in the oil since it also shares with the transmission. So far no problems except for the whistling noise from my gas tank which people are saying I just need to put some more miles on it. Other than that, I will wait to hit 10Krpm around the 500 mile mark. However, when I was riding it around 60-65mph on the highway, I could really tell thatshe loves to be around that speed and is waiting for a good twist of the wrist to really get her pumping...Can't wait!

I've just hit the 40 mile mark, lol and I havent gone over 9k. I think the break in is a little unrealistic. Was reading some stuff on a site that said to make sure your down shifting and not just braking. TBH I'm pretty new to riding so this was all BIG news to me, maybe not so much for others.

The head mechanic at my dealer told me to just stay around 7000rpm max, if I did hit interstate just to alternate the revs so I wouldn't hold it at any rpm for very long. I just held it on backroads and casual 55mph roads for the first 600, though the very morning I took it back for the service I did take it on interstate, but there wasn't any cars on the road that time of the morning...
