break in

RE: break in
VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!! The main thing I believe is do not ride at a steady RPM during break in. Most kawasaki's state 4000rpm first 500 miles. Then 6000 last 500 miles. I think that you would be fine a little higher, but just do not keep revs at a steady RPM. Change oil at a 1000, you should be fine. Double check me though. I've been known to be wrong before. Happy riding

RE: break in
Do what the manufactor says to do for break-in period, this is the most crucial thing that you can do for your bike. No more then 4k rpm for the first 500 miles, then no more then 6k rpm for the next 500 miles. The mechanics where I work said that its okay if you rev past these points on gear shifts, as long as you don't go way past and don't do it in every gear. The way you break it in, will set the standard on how your engine will last in the long run.

I have hear from ether side on this topic..
but I have alway leaned to the manufacture spec.. even tho engineers put things in places they don't need to be and make things harder to work on than they need to be. They do know how it works and what works best !!!

RE: break in
I'm an automotive mechanic, I just got my first bike, but i've been through college in automotive technology and internal combustion engines. I'm not 100% on bikes, but for cars and boats (stuff that i've worked on the most), worst thing you can do is break them in easy. I don't claim to know a whole lot about bikes yet but considering they are still internal combustion piston type engines, i'd assume it's the same. If it was my bike, i'd run it hard to make sure the piston rings get a good seal into the cylinder wall.

RE: break in
unfortunately, according to the manufactor recommendations, running it hard right away is not the way to break-in the motor but a way to actually break the motor. just remember it's under warranty but it doesn't cover abuse.
