Default rpms at 60mph?

i have a 2000 ninja 250 and it always seems im going slower than what the gauge says. just rolled 5000 miles. what is your rpm at 60 in top gear? mine says im doing 60 at ~7200rpm. i ran behind someone and it says that im reading 5mph too high. i dont know what it would be.

From what I've heard Speedos being a bit off on bikes is pretty common though I would say that 5mph is quite a bit.

Have you done anything like Whapt - putting bigger tires on the bike?

I've read that they average about 10% fast, so a 5mph variance at 60mph isn't bad. It won't be 5mph over across the board..it'll be 10% of the speed you're traveling.

Nearly all motor vehicles have speedos reading between 5 & 8% high. THe Odos are usually accurate.

On my 07 i have found my speedo reeds almost exactly at 10% fast. Theres a bunch of the signs that tell you your speed around town so i made it point to run by em a few times. So in town i run 5mph over the posted limit and on the interstate i run at 10mph over the posted limit. That puts me right in with the average flow of traffic and out of trouble...
