Max RPMS
Just wondering what RPMs you guys average. I ride my bike to work a lot and take the interstate most of the way. I usally am in thearound 7k . I actully but an aluminum40 tooth on the back with the stock 14 still on the front so I would keep the motor from working so hard and I still hate thinking about it when I'm running 8500 rpms. It just sounds like its working so hard. I think my mods gave a ton of torque because I always shift around 6k and it drops down to 5k and I just go the the gears really quick. How do you guys ride?
It does sound like its about to blow up when turning 8000+ rpm's butI have never heard of anyone blowing a KLX up. They are bullet proof and last for years of abuse. I rarely take mine on long highway trips but I wouldn't be afraid to.

I have been riding mine on the Interstate to work (65mph) with stock gearing and for the 15 mile journey each way it isn't bad.
Last week for the fun of it I rode my KLX down I-15 (75MPH speed limit) from Salt Lake City to St George Utah (about 300 miles), after the first 100 miles my hands had enough of the high frequency vibration so I exited the interstate and took some roads and dirt at a more leisurely pace.
I think that with proper maintenance and good oil that this little engine can tolerate a fairly abusive pace for a lot of hours, probably can take more then most riders would be willing to.
Next week I’m going to see if I can make the same trip on my KE100 just for the hell of it.

I usually ride at 7-9k while i'm bootin aroud offroad. Its not that loud, but I have stock exhauststill, and I can't hear very well. In town i rev it up pretty high too toget some speed but usually ride at about 7
