Since you should already have a manual on your ride, does not take much mechanical abilities to clean the carbs. A bit of common sense and you are good to go. I prefer to double check carb synch afterwards. Not a big ordeal really.

not great to do that but it wont hurt it. Also did you buy the bike new? And did you have the 500 mile service? Valves might be out of adjustment.

I bought my bike brand new in 07 and I just barely reached 500 miles...I think its time for the major service...
