Default First Crash

Just got back from my first crash, beautiful day here in vermont and i was at work all day, got out of work and took the bike for a spin, was comming up over a small hill not even really speeding, and i saw a cop, here's where i forget, not sure whether i applied too much front brake, or i applied only a little and somehow it locked, but either way my front brake locked and the handlebar jackknifed, i went over and the bike skidded away, slide on my side and back for about 50 feet, got up and went "DAMN!" wasn't too happy at this point. What i was wearing: Leather padded jacket, gloves, full face helmet, and jeans. Jeans held up suprisingly well except in the knees, those tore down and gashed my knees pretty good. so the cop stopped and called the local ones and the EMT's, i was fine, not a scratch on my helmet, jacket got a bit torn up, (was brand new), gloves got demolished (almost didn't wear them), and jeans got shredded. luckily the EMT's were fellow RA's from my college and the local cops were nice, they checked me out, grabbed my info and i jumped back on the bike and headed home. what an adventure, just wish i could remember whether i braked too hard or not. only injuries were scrapped knees, a sprained wrist from the handlebar, and a little bit of a sprain ankle. lucky me.

I don't know if you still have the original tires on your 250, but if so, they have terrible traction. Too quick of a front brake squeeze could have easily locked the wheel up. So how fast do you think you were going?

nice pics on the gear. can we see the bike? it seems like you talked about all the damages except for the bike. i think everyone here would like to see what happens to an o4 ninja 250 after a jackknife (as you describe your incident).

ride safe!
