Just wanted to say hello. I bought a new 2003 Z1000 about 2 months ago and love it so far. I've been riding for a couple years now with about 12k miles of streetriding during that time. The Z is my first 1000cc bike and so far all has been great. Below is a pic of my ride. Ride Safe.

I am considering a Z1000 as sit up bike I would like to get for the commute. Saw one 2 weeks ago that had under seat exhaust and custom paint, it rocked.

I've owned a 2000 SV650 and a 1998 YZF600R. I actually just sold the YZF about a month ago. Both those bikes were great but the Z has a lot more attitude. Even though it's pretty aggressive, the Z1000 is still good for commuting as long as there is not a lot of freeway travel involved. The wind protection is not that great especially at 80+ mph but I did install a taller windscreen which helps somewhat. The power is nice and to exploit that even more I just went -1 tooth on the front sprocket. It's a little more buzzy now but it pulls even harder than it did before.
