Default Howdy from Texas

Greetings,
I wanted to to drop in and say hello.
I scored a smoking deal this weekend and brought home a KLX300. Still can't believe I got her, feel surreal.
She needs just a little bit of work but other than that, she's in great shape, beaten up, scratched up and well used. So at least I won't be afraid to drop her.
I'll be seeing y'all around.
Lou

Welcome to KF.
I noticed your post in Craigs List Find.
Hard starting could be valves needing adjustment or a dirty carb. Those would be the two places I'd start looking.

Thank you, sir.
I will start with the usual suspects, like wrong jets in the carb (has been recently rebuilt with incorrect parts, per invoice). If that doesn't help, I'll be looking at the head for sure. One step at a time.
Good to be here, seems like a lot of resources on this forum.
Hoping to learn a lot about my bike from y'all.
Lou

You're welcome.

Most action on this board is on the KLX250, which is very similar to your 300.
One of my riding buddies had a 300. The dealership/shop put a smaller-than-stock pilot jet in that bike to improve low-rpm throttle response at the 3000+ft elevations we typically ride here. I can see this mod potentially making the bike a little more difficult to start.
The KLX250 can be notoriously difficult to start, and many of us drill out the enricher jet (a non-replaceable jet) just a tiny bit larger. I went to 0.018". Some go to 0.020".
Feel free to post questions in the KLX250 section and you'll get more views and replies.
